Funny thing is, when I have a relationship with a tree - say, the enormous poplar and beeches and delicate dogwoods in my backyard - I have no problem identifying them in any season. Trees are so generous, though, when we pay any attention at all, they reciprocate.

Thank you! We just finished the Tree ID class yesterday and I'm having deja vu all over again. On a walk this morning I noticed some particular leaves and thought, "We just looked at this yesterday. What is this?" It will come in time. Trees are amazingly generous, despite the initials carved in them (especially beeches.)

Noticing is what I have been trying to do for myself and the people I go walking with. It's by looking and looking that we finally get to distinguish one kind of plant from another. Latin names for trees is something I've never tried to master but my step-son did a course and found it the hardest thing to pass too. Perseverance at observing definitely yields results. And essential too.

How wonderful to see your name pop up here, Paula! It's been many many moons since you've called me that nickname. Love it!

I love sycamores with their wild camouflage bark! Nice surprise. I'll bet the trees enjoy you, too!
