I do that each day. I am particularly fond of watching the ever changing clouds. Our windows face towards the north west from where our weather mostly comes. It is so good to see the signs and then feel smug when it arrives as you yourself predicated.
It is more likely that I spend more time staring out of the window!

You have a location advantage for watching for weather. I'm often surprised when the clouds roll in.
