Place names fascinate me. Especially the layers of history, as so many places had names already when white Europeans came and renamed them. You may want to check out George R. Stewart’s 1940s book, Names on the Land: A Historical Account of Place-Naming in the United States.
It is an amazing sound, very grounding. Interestingly, most people think I'm more crazy than lucky. I'm too far out of town, it's too dark, it's too isolated... Exactly what I was looking for. ;-)
