Yes, you can slow down your life
This is the sixth article in a series on how I set up a life I don't need to escape.
How do you even start to slow down the crazy train that is your life so you can get off?
Adding “good for you” things to your crammed to-do list sets you up for failure. Adding more guilt to your already full plate is neither kind nor useful. Starting any change with grand and unreachable goals is noble but doomed.
So we start small, very very small. Making one tiny, incremental change. And then repeating it. Over and over.
First, create a little space
It’s the definition of creating “tiny habits,” although I don’t much like the term habit. Habits are purely functional and unemotional in my mind, and the shift to a slow life is rooted in the things that matter the most to us. Our priorities, our relationships, our non-negotiables.
So first we create a little space. Space to rest, to breathe, to be.
Within that space we can calm our agitated awareness, and invite it to look around.
Starting to reframe your life doesn’t have to be hard, complicated or time intensive. It needs three things:
A clear intention to take a fresh look and start to take action
Consistent focus on tiny steps
Openness to possibilities you can’t see yet
You don’t need new skills, more experience or tons of information.
You need an experienced guide with the right map who’s been down this road before.
A guide with a map
I would be honored to be your guide.
Next week I’m starting a guided, short summer program to help you start to craft your personal escape plan.
It’s designed to do those things I just mentioned:
Create space to rest
Take a fresh look
Take consistent, tiny steps
Rediscover possibilities
Yes, reconnecting with Nature will be a key part because Nature is a key part of life. But no worries – no outdoor gear required.
This program is focused on inviting you to try new experiences, not consuming lots of content. In fact, there will be very little content, but lots of thought-provoking questions and ideas that won’t take much on-screen time.
Why during the summer?
My intent is to help you develop the crystal-clear focus you need, explore the possibilities and experience the surprise of unexpected support, the guideposts that kept me on track. You have more resources than you realize.
Summer officially just started and is the perfect time to expand our awareness and sense of possibility into the fullness of life right outside our door. Because I know you have a lot going on during the summer, I’ve intentionally designed the program with a low time commitment to work with busy summer schedules and activities.
This won’t be for everyone, but I think you’ll know if this is right for you.
More details tomorrow.
